Well I am up here in Yellowknife if I didn't already mention that. why? The Arctic Winter Games 2008 is on so I thought I'd come up and have a true "Northern experience". the flight was breathtaking - amazing scenery and contrating landscape. the frozen lakes look like big golf course sand traps w/ some trees scattered around. I was inspired to start writing again! so when I wasn't staring out the window in awe and delight or scribbling in my notebook.
the sun welcomed me into the city, it was in fact warm at 0 degrees.
last nite very briefly I saw the Northern Lights, a bit green. I was told at the Visitor's Centre to head out to the Ice Rd for the best viewing spot. and I found out why they call it "Yellowknife" as the Dene people used copper knives to open dynamite kegs to avoid sparks during the mining era. Well that's what I read and the population is close to 20,000 now. alright I have to head off to the Opening Ceremonies tonight. more Arctic adventures to continue and yes i have seen a polar bear already! He was stuffed in the airport, I missed the seal though...oh poor animals!! s.
The Arctic Winter Games 2008 は、3月15日まで開催されています。ちょっと違った目的で、Yellownifeへ行くのも良い想い出になると思います。ボランティアでイエローナイフへ行って、オーロラはついで。。。なんてCoolかも。 http://www.awg2008.ca/default.asp
